Sand control often involves the installation of screens with or without gravel, the sizing of which is critical for the success of the completion and is normally based on particle size distribution (PSD) analysis of formation samples. In this presentation, we discuss the applicability of the various sand sampling techniques to sand control completions and review the industry guidelines used in selecting the most appropriate screen and gravel for a well.
