Various techniques are available to control sand production, but gravel packing is recognized as one of the most reliable, so long as a complete pack is achieved. Water packing is the most used gravel packing method and uses low viscosity Newtonian carrier fluids (typically completion brine) with gravel in low concentrations. In this presentation, we discuss the principles, packing mechanisms and design considerations of water packing along with its challenges and application window.
